WASP in numbers
- Goal to produce at least 600 PhDs, of which at least 150 are industrial PhDs
- Goal to recruit 80 university faculty
- Close engagement from 8 Swedish universities in the program
- A community of more than 1,000 researchers, including 400 PhD candidates
- Funding of 6.2 billion SEK (approx. 600 million USD) during the period 2015 to 2031
WASP is a major national initiative for research in AI, autonomous systems, and software. It’s the largest-ever research program of its kind in Swedish history and aims to position Sweden as a globally recognized leader in the fields.
Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program – Humanity and Society (WASP-HS) enables cutting-edge research, expertise, and competence building to foster interdisciplinary knowledge about how AI and autonomous systems impact day-to-day life and society as a whole – and vice versa. The national research program nurtures interdisciplinary knowledge and draws from core insights from the humanities and social science.
